
Baniyani (Jhapa), March 22: The Armed Police Force has arrested two people from Jhapa in possession of 1,636 kg of marijuana.
The police have taken both of them under control along with two trucks that were used to carry the banned drugs from Mechi Highway in Buddhashanti Rural Municipality-4.
The Armed Police Force team seized the marijuana from trucks (Ko 1 Kha 5001 and Pra 1-02-002 Kha 0584) heading towards Jhapa from Ilam on Friday, according to Armed Police Force Superintendent of Police Bikram Humagain. The arrested have been identified as Mahesh Rai of Shahidbhumi Municipality-4 in Dhankuta and Ganga Bahadur Basnet, 37, of Maijogain Rural Municipality-2 in Ilam.
The trucks were loaded with 57 bags of marijuana. Police also seized Rs. 87,880 in cash and five mobile telephone sets from the accused.
Those arrested along with the marijuana and the trucks have been handed over to the District Police Office, Jhapa for necessary action.
