Budget: Govt Will Offer 24-Hour Water Supply

Government to upgrade  water distribution system and offer round the clock water supply.

Finance Minister, Dr Ramsharan Mahat, announcing the budget of the fiscal year 2080/81 assured to extend quality drinking water services, and to provide access to basic drinking water services for all.

He informed to implement one house and one stream, water projects and initiatives to attain the objective. The Melamchi project's interim headworks will be modified to offer 24-hour water delivery. The project's long-term operation will be guided by the suggestions of the Melamchi watershed geological research report. The second phase of this project will begin with the construction of a bridge linking Yangri and Larke in Melamchi.

Dr. Mahat declared that the water will be transported via a new distribution system within Kathmandu Valley's ring road. Also, pipeline construction will begin in Kirtipur, Bhaktapur, Thimi, Jorpati, Tokha, Kapan, and Pepsicola during the second phase.

Rs. 1 billion 31 crores  of budget has been alloted for the maintenance and renovation of old and functioning water supply installations.
