Nepal Police has formed an investigation committee under the leadership of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Pooja Singh, to investigate the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl Nirmala Pant from Kanchanpur.
Nepal Police have informed that a five-member investigation committee has been formed under to investigate the crime. DIG Singh is currently working in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB). Earlier, she was assigned to investigate the incident when she was the Superintendent of Police.
Home Minister, Lamichhane has decided to take maximum measures to bring justice to Nirmala Pant. According to the decision of Home Minister, the police headquarters formed a committee. The committee consists of Superintendent of Police (SP) Kamal Thapa, Inspector Dhirendra Rokaya, and psychiatrists. According to police sources, they have been given instruction to investigate the Nirmala case from a new perspective.
On July 10, 2075, the body of Nirmala, a girl from Bhimdatta Municipality-2, who had gone to her friend's house to do housework, was found in a sugarcane field the next day.
Although the Ministry of Home Affairs has formed various teams to investigate the incident, the killer has not yet been arrested.
The team of then Superintendent of Police Delhiraj Bista of Kanchanpur arrested Dilipsingh Bista of Bhimdatta Municipality-19 on charges of rape and murder of Nirmala Pant. After the arrest of Dilip, situation became tense between the police and local residents of Kanchanpur. The DNA match of Nirmala’s vaginal swab with Dilip’s DNA came negative, which made Dilip’s release from prison possible.
The Nirmala rape and murder case created tension in Kanchanpur. Then Ministry of Home Affairs formed an inquiry committee, which submitted its report on August 30. Based on the report, then SP Dilliraj Bista along with, DSP Gyan Bahadur Sethi and DSP Angur GC from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police were suspended.
All this has contributed to further complicate the murder case.
