At least 14 people died when a bus with Indian number plate plunged into Marsyangdi river at Aina Pahara of Aanbukhaireni rural municipality-2 of Tanahu along the Prithvi highway this afternoon.
Sixteen passengers were rescued. The bus (UP 53 FT 7623) heading towards Kathmandu from Pokhara fell into the river.
Deputy Superintendent of Police in Tanahu, Deepak Kumar Raya, said Indian passengers were travelling in the bus. However, the number of passengers has not been ascertained yet. Around 40 Indian nationals were travelling in the bus, it is said.
A 10-member team of divers of the Armed Police Force has been mobilized at the incident site and the team is rescuing the passengers.
Joint-Spokesperson of the APF, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shailendra Thapa shared that the rescued passengers are being taken to hospital. Nepali Army, Nepal Police and APF teams have been carrying out rescue operation.
