One Killed As Protests Turn Violent In Siraha, Curfew Imposed

One person was killed during a protest in Golbazar, Siraha, on Thursday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Basudev Pathak of the District Police Office, Siraha, confirmed that authorities had received information regarding the fatality and said further details surrounding the incident were still being gathered.

The identity of the deceased and the exact cause of death have not yet been disclosed.

The security situation in Golbazar and Lahan remains tense. During the unrest, protesters torched 11 motorcycles parked in Golbazar. Police said the blaze was brought under control with assistance from the Golbazar Municipality fire brigade.

In response to the deteriorating security situation, the local administration imposed a curfew in the Golbazar area. Security has been reinforced with the deployment of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, and the Armed Police Force.

Meanwhile, in Janakpurdham, the capital of Madhesh Province, rising tensions between two communities prompted the District Administration Office, Dhanusha, to enforce a curfew in parts of the city and surrounding areas from 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The administration has appealed to the public to remain calm, refrain from spreading or believing rumors, and cooperate with security agencies to help maintain peace and public order.
