Swasthani Brata Katha, a month long fasting ritual, has started today.  Nepali Hindu women fast for a month from the full moon of Poush to the next full moon  in Magh. During the fast, 'Swasthani Katha' is recited and heard.

The story of Parvati, the daughter of the Himalaya from the Satya Yuga, who fasted on the instructions of Vishnu, is described in Swasthani.

Madhavanarayan fair is organized in Shalinadi of Sankhu, Kathmandu along with Magh Snan (bathe) for a month.
