Bagmati Province chief minister, Shalikram Jammakattel, has proposed renaming the province as 'Newa-Tamsaling'.
In his address to a festival reception organised by the CPN (Maoist Centre) at Madhyapur Thimi, Bhaktapur on Friday, the Chief Minister claimed the name 'Bagmati' for the province failed to serve the larger aspirations of the people.
He also said, Hetauda, the province capital, is geographically not easily reachable for the people from 11 districts. "It is easily accessible from Chitwan and Makwanpur."
He proposed Dhulikhel as the capital for the province. "The location and name of the province may get changed at an appropriate time through a political consensus and this falls within the province jurisdiction as well."
During the programme, he said the province government has already endorsed an act recognising the Newar and Tamang languages as official languages and it would come into force in all agencies by the next six months.
