CPN-UML Selects Astalaxmi Sakya as Vice-Presidential Candidate

The CPN-UML has decided to nominate Astalakshmi Shakya, the party's vice president, as its vice presidential candidate.

Pradeep Gyawali, the party's Deputy General Secretary, stated that the decision was made at a secretariat meeting held at the party's central office on Saturday.

'This gathering was solely focused on one agenda,' he explained. We have chosen to nominate Astalakshmi Shakya, the party's vice president, for the vice presidential election. At the local level, we have recommended one woman for president, vice president, and chief or deputy chief. Elevating men to both positions is against the constitution. That cannot be done.

The Election Commission has been directed to register nominations for the post of Vice President today.
