Kathmandu, May 5: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order in the name of the federal government to submit the details of documents regarding the procedures taken to demolish the squatters' settlements. A single bench of Justice Sunil Kumar Pokharel on Monday ordered the government to submit details in five points.
The SC has sought the mandatory procedures and processes to be done under the Constitution of Nepal, Right to Housing Act, 2075 BS and the directive of the court as stated in point no. 91 of the government's 100-point governance reform, which was implemented following the decision of the Council of Ministers.
Likewise, the SC has sought objective details regarding the rehabilitation, food supply and health care of senior citizens, patients and physically challenged people as well as alternative provisions for children's education and the basic human rights status of those evacuees.
In the petition filed by Mazid Ansari and others naming the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers as the defendants, the SC has asked both sides to appear on May 6 for discussions, and has ordered the Office of the Attorney General to submit a written response about the bases and reasons within 15 days.
