The World Central Kitchen (WCK) announced on Saturday the resumption of operations in the Gaza Strip after over six weeks of suspension.
"World Central Kitchen aid trucks have reached our teams in Gaza for the first time in over 12 weeks. As of today, we have resumed cooking at select kitchens, a critical step toward increasing meal production to meet the urgent need of displaced Palestinians," the relief organization said in a press statement.
Almost 10,000 meals were cooked on the first day of resumed operations, it said.
"This first aid shipment is an important milestone, but the effects of prolonged hunger do not disappear overnight," it said.
WCK said it had been forced to suspend cooking at all large-scale kitchens and its mobile bakery on May 7, after completely running out of food supplies in the Gaza Strip.
