A live ammunition cartridge was found inside an Air India's international flight in Delhi on its return from Dubai, confirmed an airline's official on Saturday.
The live round of ammunition was found on Oct. 27 from inside the pocket of a passenger seat of the said flight during the routine cleaning work. Later, a formal complaint was lodged with the Delhi Police, and an investigation was on to crack the serious security breach.
"One ammunition cartridge was found in the pocket of a seat of our flight AI-916 after it had landed from Dubai at Delhi on Oct. 27, and all passengers had safely disembarked," an Air India spokesperson was quoted as saying in an official statement.
He added that a complaint was immediately lodged with the Airport Police by Air India.
The incident assumed even more significance as it came amid a spate of hoax bomb threats about bombs being placed onboard flights. As per an estimate, more than 510 domestic and international flights had received bomb threats over the past two weeks, which were later found to be hoax.
