Bangladesh has been crowned the new champion of the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) U-20 Championship football tournament.
Bangladesh won the title by defeating hosts Nepal by 4-1 in the final match held today at the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) ground in Satdobato, Lalitpur,
For Bangladesh, Mirajul Islam scored a brace while Rabi Hossain Rahul and Piash Ahmed Nova scored one goal each.
Mirazul opening the scoring with a goal in extra time of the first half of the game and doubled the lead in the 55th minute. In the 71st minute of the game, Rabi scored to make it 3-0.
Ten minutes later, Samir Tamang scored a goal for the home team in the 81st minute. However, Nova from Bangladesh scored in extra time of the second half of the match to give Bangladesh a historic victory over Nepal by 4-1.
This is the first time that Bangladesh has won this Championship.
Along with Nepal and Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, the Maldives and Bhutan participated in the competition that started on August 18.
Minister for Youth and Sports Minister Tejulal Chaudhary, Member Secretary of National Sports Council Tanka Lal Ghising, ANFA President Pankaj Bikram Nembang and others guests distributed prizes and certificates to the winners and runners-up team and members.
