The identity of the person killed after being hit by a truck in Gatthaghar, Bhaktapur, on Thursday has been disclosed.
62-year-old Uttam Koirala from Chishankhugadhi Municipality-4, Okhaldhunga, lost his life in the tragic accident.
Initially, the police misidentified the dead and briefed the media about the death of a girl after being hit by a truck. The inconvenience was largely due to the mutilation of the body in the accident.
On Thursday afternoon, a person arrived at the scene and identified the deceased as his sister. The name of the deceased was released by the police as per his statement. However, the girl who was believed to be dead called the police and informed that she was alive.
The person was arrested, and further investigation was carried out that revealed that the deceased was a male rider.
According to police, the CCTV footage shows him driving a scooter with the registration number Ba 49 Pa 8944. Based on the evidence at hand, the police confirmed that the deceased was male.
Bhaktapur Police Chief Bista maintained that the police were not at fault as revealed in the accident, and the accident occurred after crossing the traffic checkpoint. "The truck hit the scooter after moving about 30-35 meters ahead of the checking," he said.
The CCTV footage of the incident has now been released after the police got into a dispute. The scooter is seen being hit by the truck while it is moving.
