The locals of Nuwakot and Dhading have obstructed the disposal of waste from the Kathmandu Valley at the landfill site at Bancharedanda, citing non-implementation of the past agreements.
The Bancharedanda Landfill Site-affected Area Concern Committee (Nuwakot-Dhading) has created obstruction in the waste disposal, calling for the implementation of the past agreements and declaration of the landfill site area as 'Human Settlement-free Landfill Site Development Area'.
Committee convenor Shreeram Dhungana said they have halted the waste disposal at the landfill site together with the announcement of a peaceful movement as the 11-point demand that an all-sides meeting submitted to the Prime Minister on March 4 remained unheeded.
According to him, the approach road to Kudulle, Sisdol in Nuwakot and the approach road to Bancharedanda of Dhading have been obstructed since the morning today as part of the peaceful protest.
"We will not allow the waste to be disposed of at Sisdol and Bancharedanda until a commitment is made for implementing the past agreements and fulfilling the new demand," he warned.
One thousand and five hundred metric tonnes of waste from Kathmandu, Lalitpur and other municipalities is disposed of daily at the Bancharedanda Landfill Site.
