Dengue Cases Gradually Increase In Kathmandu; Risks To Continue For A Month

KMC put efforts to tame dengue outbreak by spraying larvicides this year, yet the contagion has not come under control

Number of dengue patients has increased in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) area of late.

According to KMC Department of Health, dengue cases have been on the rise in all 32 wards of Kathmandu for the past one week.

Chief of the Department, Ram Prasad Poudel shared though dengue cases were nominal till September third week compared to the same time last year number of people with infection was rising lately.

The KMC put efforts to tame dengue outbreak by spraying larvicides this year, yet the contagion has not come under control, Poudel further shared.

"Larvicides spray was done in the areas filled with water in an effort to contain dengue outbreak since June third week. Despite this dengue patients are being detected these days. Dengue can remain up to November 1. All should be cautious of dengue infection up to the period", he said.

All wards of the metropolis remained infection free till September third week. According to KMC data, as many as 35 people in KMC are found infected with dengue lately.

"Due to early preparedness, this year dengue cases went down in number compared to the last year", he shared. KMC has continued the larva search and destroy campaign in all wards on every Wednesday.

As informed, 88 people lost their lives to dengue infection in the country in 2022. As many as 54, 078 people were infected with dengue in the year.
