
Kathmandu, May 11: The government has launched the National Cleanliness Week, beginning today. The campaign aimed at making places of public service delivery decent, clean and environment-friendly.
The campaign was formally inaugurated by Minister for Health and Population Nisha Mehata at Bir Hospital, the country's oldest hospital. The Minister inaugurated the campaign by sweeping the hospital floor herself.
As she said, the campaign simultaneously kicked off at all government hospitals, and it will be implemented in the government entities and offices nationwide. According to the Minister, the hospital has reported relatively significant improvements lately. Patients' care has been prioritised and the service delivery system is supported by a digital system.
She added that discussions are underway to make the government's health insurance programme more effective.
House of Representatives (HoR) member KP Khanal drew the hospital management's attention to the presence of plastic related wastes on the hospital premises, stressing that the hospital administration should give its attention to maintaining the cleanliness.

The campaign, launched from the federal to local level, will continue until May 15. The government has also issued the Directives in regard with the implementation of Cleanliness Week, encouraging all the government entities and educational institutions to establish clean, healthy and systematic environment, practicing cleanliness as a habit.
