
The Federation of International Journalists, America, convened its Central Working Committee meeting online under the chairmanship of President Ram Prasad Khanal, with General Secretary Tanka Dahal conducting the session. Following extensive deliberations on a range of agenda items, the committee unanimously endorsed 19 significant resolutions.
The meeting resolved to standardize the Federation’s membership fees, setting the rate at 100 USD for journalists residing outside Nepal and 5,000 NPR for those within Nepal. Emphasizing the need to uphold journalistic values, norms, and integrity, the committee expressed concern regarding the rumors, psychological pressure, and mistreatment currently faced by journalists both inside and outside the country.
Serious concern was also voiced regarding ongoing attacks against journalists in sensitive regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Europe, Australia, Canada, Nepal, Israel, Gaza, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Syria. The committee urged the respective governments to take necessary measures to ensure journalists’ safety.
The meeting formally ratified previously established branches in Nepal, Japan, Poland, and Saudi Arabia. Advisors and office bearers were encouraged to actively contribute to strengthening the Federation’s international presence.
A subcommittee comprising Satish Chapagain, Krishnaraj Khanal, and Dinesh Karki was formed to compile a comprehensive roster of journalists residing outside Nepal. Another subcommittee—consisting of Tanka Dahal, Arjun Dahal, and Anil Ochihar—was tasked with examining the feasibility of long-term financial resource management.
The Federation assigned Prof. Purushottam Dahal and Dr. Balkrishna Chapagain the responsibility of organizing special programs and workshops through the Nepal branch, as well as preparing the corresponding working papers. Additionally, Jibram Bhandari, Tanka Panta, Akhand Bhandari and Kedar Koirala were entrusted with key roles in institutional development and expansion of the Nepal branch.
Anil Thapa was designated to establish a branch in Canada, while Surendra Sapkota was assigned to oversee expansion efforts in Australia. Yubaraj Bidrohi was tasked with conducting a feasibility study on formally associating journalism organizations from various countries with the Federation. The committee also expressed its appreciation to Er. Kumar Shrestha for his ongoing support in developing and updating the Federation’s website. Furthermore, Krishna Poudel, Nawaraj Kunwar, and Kamala Bishwakarma were given responsibility for studying the participation and impact of women journalists.
Similarly, Bijay Ghimire, Krishnaraj Khanal, Suman Dahal, and Bishwaraj Thapa were assigned to prepare a detailed plan assessing the feasibility of organizing a journalists’ gathering in the United States. The committee also resolved that international branches may establish their own funds with the approval of the central office.
Puru Ghimire was assigned to coordinate with U.S.-based organizations to enhance the capacity of Nepali journalists and to facilitate special programs in Washington, D.C., with the participation of Nepali journalists and institutions.
Finally, the meeting authorized the President and General Secretary to convene regular monthly meetings and to undertake all necessary consultations and coordination required for the implementation of the resolutions adopted.
