Kathmandu, Nov 10: Leela Ballav Adhikari, who recently resigned as the Minister for Internal Affairs and Law in the Koshi Province government, is being brought to Kathmandu today following his arrest on the charge of forgery.
Adhikari is accused of producing fake documents to facilitate the travel of three people —Dawa Sherpa, 36, Janak Rai, from Khotang, and Kanchan Devkota, 22, from Rasuwa— to Japan, accompanying him. The four, including Adhikari, were deported from Tokyo Airport on October 30.
According to Nawaraj Adhikari, the Spokesperson, and Superintendent of Police at the District Police Range in Kathmandu, procedures are underway to bring the suspect to Kathmandu from Morang.
Adhikari is also alleged to have received Rs. 1 million each from the three individuals in exchange for illegally facilitating their travel to Japan. The District Police Office in Morang has confirmed his arrest.
On Saturday, the CPN (UML) Central Secretariat endorsed the decision of the party's Koshi Province chapter to expel Adhikari from the party, even by annulling his general membership
