Voices are yet again raised in support of another Nirmala for justice. The incidents of violence that occur and reoccur in various sections of the country have at times brought disgrace on the human race and civilization as a whole. Among these, the murder of Nirmala Kurmi of Banke Nepalgunj and the disappearance of her body should be considered the most recent. Violence, including torture, rape, and murder by family members, has occurred in society not just from family members but also from neighbors, relatives, and others. They can vary from normal to severe in nature. There have been several events that have surfaced, but there is no account of many more that have been suppressed.
Many Home Ministers came and departed. They pledged to bring the perpetrators to justice within a week. Some of them climbed to the office of Home Minister using Nirmala's name. But it all turned out to be nothing more than words. The current Home Minister is from Kanchanpur, and he sees justice for Nirmala of Banke and Nirmala of Kanchanpur as a critical issue. It will be fascinating to watch how the current home minister, Ramesh Lekhak, will handle this scenario.
Many instances have been kept confidential for religious or cultural reasons, including beliefs and dignity. If the aforementioned events are regarded as typical incidents, the underlying causes and consequences might be speculated. Some situations are prompted by the spouse's psychological worry of indifference, which the woman is forced to suffer internally. Some cases are attempted to be hidden by the community's intellectuals for fear of undermining societal dignity and the dignity of their region.
There are many incidents that have come out after overcoming all these pressures. It is often done by luring the victim. If all the cases remain hidden, the number of incidents of violence would have increased. The Nirmala Kurmi case has emerged as another version of Nirmala Pant, although while the two murder cases are comparable, there are no additional similarities. Young females are raped and killed for their sexual desires. Nirmala Pant's rape and murder case in Kanchanpur, where the rapist has yet to be found or sought, and in many other cases, rape has been the cause for the murder, but Nirmala Kurmi's murder was motivated by property.
Nirmala Kurmi of Banke Nepalgunj-17 died four years after her husband passed away along with her two sons, aged 14 and 18 years, within a span of ten days. Torture began on her when she was in a state of bereavement. Perpretators kidnapped her, abused her physically and emotionally, and confiscated the documentation confirming her ownership to a large plot of land. Their ancestral land was registered in the name of her husband Mahlu Kurmi and sons, therefore ill-minded individuals were interested in her land.
On one hand, she was destitute due to the death of his husband and the loss of his two sons, aged 14 and 18, Ramsagar and Suresh, four years later to their father’s death. Contrary to the fact that civilized society should protect and help women in such situations, the society's leaders turned a blind eye to her. It was said that Nirmala went missing in 2075 and died across the border in India. Now the land in her name has also been registered under their names by some people of the society. After this, the real picture of the society has been exposed.
This might be an example of how society preys on single and weak women. Although she is claimed to have died, her body has not been located. It's probable that the same criminals in society made her body disappear. It has been verified that such other women are not secure in an atmosphere where wealth is valued above all else and individuals are willing to kill to gain the property of a vulnerable lady. Nepal is a lawful country. Our nation has a constitution and laws to safeguard its citizens. Ironically, the terrible breach of the law continues to this day. Everyone, except the culprit, wishes Nirmala Kurmi justice.
Some individuals merely support this, but others advocate for justice. Rights activists are battling for it. Women's security pressure organizations are actively working to put pressure on the government. They have taken to the streets, declaring that there is nothing more disgraceful in democracy. Rights groups believe that the lack of a thorough inquiry into what happened has eroded individuals' faith in the state. This is reality. If offenders implicated in similar acts are not prosecuted, the nation's reputation will suffer. No party should provide protection to such criminals. Such actions bring shame onto society and, ultimately, the nation. Everyone wishes for all victims of injustice, including Nirmala Kurmi, Nirmala Pant get justice and the state must take this seriously.
