A variety of programs are being held across the country today to celebrate National Democracy Day, in commemoration of the day when the Nepali people stood against the then autocratic Rana regime subsequently establishing democracy for the first time in the country.
As a result of the struggle and sacrifices of the ordinary Nepali people, the Rana regime ended on Falgun 7, 2007 B.S. beginning a new era of democracy.
Notably Shukraraj Shastri, Gangalal Shrestha, Dasharath Chand, Dharmabhakta Mathema and others sacrificed their lives to liberate their fellow Nepalis from the autocratic rule.
