A traffic policeman has come under knife attack at the District Traffic Police Office, Nawalpur in Sarlahi district today.
An assailant attacked Traffic Police Constable Pramod Mahato of Gaushala Municipality-3, Mahottari, with a knife at the District Traffic Police Office, Nawalpur itself, said Police Inspector Madan Thapa, the Chief of the district Traffic Police Office.
According to Thapa, Mahato came under attack when he entered the office after handing over to a driver a receipt for paying the penalty for traffic rule violation following checking on vehicles along the East-West highway outside the Office.
The assailant is identified as Yamamuddin Deman of Rajpur-1, Rautahat, who had come on a motorcycle with registration number plate Na 19 Pa 2555 coming from the west and heading towards east on the East-West highway in front of the District Traffic Police Office, said Police Inspector Om Prakash Yadav, the Officiating Spokesman at the Office.
Yadav said that Deman who tried to run away after stabbing Mahato was promptly taken under control and he is kept at the police custody at Lalbandi.
Mahato has been injured in the forehead, neck, hands and abdomen due to the knife attack, police said. He has been sent to National Medical College Birgunj for advanced treatment following general treatment at a local health facility.
Further investigation is under way in this connection, according to police.
