6 Nepali Nationals Serving Russian Military Killed In Ukraine Conflict: Ministry

Six Nepali nationals who joined the Russian military lost their lives in the conflict with Ukraine.

Issuing a press release, Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed today that the Nepali citizens who joined the Russian military were killed in the war.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Russia has been requested to send the victims' bodies to Nepal as soon as possible and to compensate the victims' families.

The Ministry informed that diplomatic efforts are on for the release of Bibek Khatri who is currently serving in the Russian military and is held captive in Ukraine.

Also, the government has requested Russia not to recruit Nepalese citizens into the Russian army and if any Nepalese citizens are recruited, they be quickly returned to Nepal.

Those killed during war are Sandeep Thapalia of Gorkha, Rupak Karki of Kapilvastu, Dewan Rai of Kaski, Pitam Karki of Syangja, Rajkumar Roka of Dolakha and Gangaraj Moktan of Ilam.

The Ministry has also urged people not join in the military of any nation that is currently at war under any circumstances.

It has also appealed to travel to Russia only with a No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the Department of Consular Services under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs except for those who are involved in government work, scholarship of the Russian government and those in a profession or business.
