Sri Lanka is to develop a domestic air transportation network linking several airports to attract high-end tourists, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva told the parliament on Friday.
The minister said Bandaranaike International Airport, Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport, Jaffna International Airport, and domestic airports in Trincomalee and Batticaloa will be linked under this program.
Sri Lanka can attract high-end tourists if it develops a domestic air transportation network, the minister said.
The minister added that a number of international airlines have increased their flights to Sri Lanka lately.
Tourism is an important foreign exchange earner for the South Asian country, and attracting high-end tourists is a target for the local tourism industry.
