Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah 'Balen' has announced that he will not abide by the High Court order following the interim order issued against his move to not allow Hindi film screenings.
Shortly after the court order, Balen posted on social media that he would still not allow the screening of Indian films but would be ready to face any possible repercussions.
He has also accused the court and government of being slaves to India.
'When the film's writer clearly states that Nepal was under the rule of India, we clearly get to know their intentions. The government's call for this to be a stunt and the court ruling to allow the film to screen suggest that Nepal was under the control of India. The court and the government are understood to be slaves of India. I am ready to face any repercussions for this, but the film will not be allowed to be screened,' the post reads.
Following the hearing on the petition filed by the Nepal Motion Picture Association on Thursday, the single bench of Judge Dhir Bahadur Chand issued a short-term interim order not to halt the screening of any film approved by the Censor Board, including Indian films.
