Several parties have voiced their opposition to President Ramchandra Paudel's certification of the Citizenship Bill during a House of Representatives meeting today.
Parliamentarians from several political parties, including the CPN-UML, the Rastriya Swantantra Party (RSP), and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, stood up and disrupted the discussion on citizenship bill verification.
RSP Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar has demanded an amendment to the Citizenship Bill, verified by the President.
Whereas, Padam Giri, chief whip of UML, warned to obstruct the parliament session until the administration scraps the bill certified by the President and presents a new draft within a week.
House Speaker Devraj Ghimire noted that the assembly's attention has been drawn and requested assistance to conduct the meeting. Lawmakers did not agree; they rose up, objected, and sang slogans.
Speaker Ghimire postponed the meeting for one hour after repeated pleas to resume were denied.
