The Supreme Court (SC) has issued a Show Cause Order against the Election Commission's decision to suspend local representatives who do not pay a fine for failing to submit election costs on time until February.
Following the hearing on the petition filed by Balen Shah, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the constitutional bench of the SC gave the ruling to the EC on Wednesday.
Balen had filed a petition with the constitutional bench challenging the Commission's decision to pay the penalties.
The constitutional bench of acting Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki and Justices Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Dr. Anand Mohan Bhattarai, Anil Kumar Sinha, and Prakashman Singh Raut issued an interim order not to collect the fine during the writ hearing.
