The first governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Himalaya Shamsher Rana, has passed away at the age of 95.
Family sources said Rana breathed his last this morning while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital, Kathmandu.
Rana has long been afflicting from pneumonia and pulmonary complications. He was admitted to hospital for treatment some days ago.
He was also the founder of the Himalaya Bank and the first Finance Secretary of Nepal. Lately, he was active as a prominent leader of the civil society movement of Nepal.
Rana will be cremated at the Pashupati Aryaghat today. He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
