Over 25 persons injured in Dhankuta stampede

At least 25 persons were injured in a stampede occurred at Dhankuta stadium this evening. The stampede took place in a crowd among the locals who rushed to attend a live concert of popular singer Pramod Kharel. Three among them are said to be in critical condition.

The concert took place in a festival site at Dhankuta municiplaity-5, Tundikhel.

Acting Chief District Officer of Dhankuta Mamata Adhikari informed that 15 out of the injured were rushed to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan and Biratnagar-based hospitals for further treatment after preliminary treatment at Dhankuta Hospital.

Entire events of the Dhankuta Mahotsav (festival) have been cancelled for today after the stampede, the organizer said.

The festival has been in place since January 20 under the aegis of Dhankuta Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
