MPs Demand Judicial Committee To Probe Sunsari, Tarai-Madhes Incidents

Kathmandu, Aug 4: In a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, lawmakers demanded that the government form a judicial committee to investigate recent incidents that occurred in Sunsari and the Tarai-Madhes region.

Seeking time in the lower house session today, they called for a thorough and impartial investigation into such incidents.

Bharat Bahadur Khadka demanded a fair probe into the developments, and urged the government to inform the House about them.

He advised the government to consider such incidents seriously, and implement measures for preventing from recurring.

Dr Amaresh Kumar Singh applauded the roles played by Prime Minister Balendra Shah and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane in managing and addressing the unrest seen lately in Sunsari and the Tarai-Madhes.

Accusing the authorities of issuing direct orders for gunfire during agitations, incidents and disputes in the Tarai- Madhes, he called for an end to such practice.

Shiba Shankar praised the government initiatives for providing justice to the victims of Sunsari and Tarai-Madhes incidents. He was of the view that security forces should not resort to gunfire unless absolutely necessary.

Shraddha Kunwar demanded the government to pay an attention to the need to address shortage of rabies vaccines in the government health facilities. Expressing her concern over an 'artificial' shortage of cooking gas in the market, she urged the government to take prompt measures to sort out the problems.

Prem Lal Chaudhary drew the government's attention to damages caused by landslides in various areas of Ilam, demanding the government ensure appropriate provisions that allow safe movement of people throughout the year.

Ambika Devi Sangroula apprised the House that families of the victims of Bardiya bus accident sometimes ago have been still denied justice.

Ankita Thakur demanded an increment in facilities for security personnel deployed along the border areas. She also urged the government to address the shortage of rabies vaccines in government-run health facilities.

Indira Rana Magar expressed her grief over the deaths of climbers including Nirmal Purja 'Nims Dai', during their recent expedition to Pakistan's Broad Peak. She urged the government to recognise Purja as a national luminary.
