Kathmandu, April 10: Rubi Kumari Thakur, a Member of Parliament from the Shram Sanskriti Party, has been elected as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. In the election held today, she secured a decisive victory over Saraswati Lama of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).
Out of the 257 lawmakers who participated in the election, Thakur received 215 votes, while Lama garnered only 5 votes. Thakur’s candidacy was backed by the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), the Nepali Congress, and the Nepali Communist Party, contributing significantly to her win.
Meanwhile, CPN-UML chose to remain neutral during the election and did not cast votes in favor of either candidate. Reports indicate that a total of 37 votes were registered as neutral, exceeding the UML’s 25-member representation in the House.
