Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Sankhuwasabha, Kumar Prasad Mainali, said that the bailey bridge broke down at 9:00 this morning while a truck loaded with cement was passing through it. As a result, the truck (Province-03-001 Ka 2920) fell into the Arun River.
The driver of the truck, Arjun Shrestha, 40, of Bahrabise Municipality-9, Sindhupalchowk, was seriously injured in the incident, DSP Mainali said. The truck was reportedly carrying construction materials for the under-construction Kasuwa Hydro Power Company.
As a result, the Num-Seduwa road section has been completely blocked bringing traffic to a standstill. This route is used by trekkers and mountaineers going to Makalu Base Camp.
