
Kathmandu, September 12: President Ramchandra Paudel has administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki today.
President Paudel appointed former Chief Justice Karki as the Prime Minister of the interim Council of Ministers, in response to the demands of the Gen Z movement.
The appointment was made in accordance with Article 61 of the Constitution. Under Clause (3) of this article, the President is entrusted with the responsibility of promoting national unity, while Clause (4) affirms that the President’s primary duty is to uphold and protect the Constitution.
President Paudel named Karki as Prime Minister, assigning her the responsibility of organizing general elections within six months, the Prime Minister's Office stated.
Earlier on Thursday, President Poudel convened an extensive round of consultations at Sheetal Niwas. The discussions, which continued throughout the day and into the night, included constitutional expert and former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, as well as Nepal Army Chief of Staff, Ashok Sigdel.
Ambassadors and officials from diplomatic missions of various countries were present at the swearing in ceremony.
