Dolpa, Jan 29: An elderly died in Dolpa district when a fire erupted in her house this morning.
Badi Sarki, 75, of Mudkechula rural municipality ward no 4 lost her life to the fire while she was sleeping nearby the traditional firewood stove, according to the police.
The elderly, physically frail due to old age, could not escape to safety when her blanket caught fire, said Kriti Bahadur Buda, ward chairperson.
While the fire reduced her two-storey thatched roof house to ashes, local residents, security personnel and people's representatives rescued the cattle in the shed to safer place, informed Budha.
The incident took place when the elderly's daughter and son-in-law had been to their farmland.
Police is collecting the details of the damage while an investigation team from the District Police Office, Dolpa was on the way to the accident site, said Buda.
