Women Dead After Truck Hits Scooter In Bhaktapur

A female rider has died when a speeding truck hit a scooter in Gatthaghar, Bhaktapur, on Thursday afternoon.

According to the authorities, the truck (Na. 6 Ka. 2173) heading towards Bhaktapur from Koteshwor hit the scooter (Ba. 39 Pa. 8944).

The scooter driver was killed on the spot when the truck hit the scooter and its rider that were stopped for checking by traffic police, as per eyewitnesses.

Eyewitnesses said that the speeding truck dragged the scooter and its rider for around 100 meters. As a result, the body of the woman was mutilated and hence identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained, police said.

Following the accident, the situation grew tense, and an agitated crowd vandalized the truck and resort to stone pelting and arson after police intervened to bring the situation under control.

The incident led the Bhaktapur-Kathmandu road to a temporary halt.
