Forces loyal to the Yemeni government clashed with the Houthi rebel militia in the country's southwestern province of Taiz on Tuesday, killing six people, a security official told Xinhua.
The local security official who asked to remain anonymous said the Houthi rebels attempted to infiltrate their military sites in the Duminah area west of Taiz province, which sparked heavy clashes and resulted in the killing of four Houthi militias and two soldiers.
The recent escalation in Taiz adds to the ongoing sporadic fighting between the Yemeni government forces and Houthi rebels across various regions of the war-torn country.
The Yemeni government and Houthi rebels have engaged in multiple rounds of negotiations, but a comprehensive resolution to the conflict remains elusive.
Yemen has been embroiled in a devastating civil war since 2014, with the Houthis fighting against the internationally-recognized Yemeni government. The Saudi Arabia-led coalition intervened in the conflict in support of the Yemeni government in 2015.
