President Ramchandra Paudel has waived off the prison sentence of Resham Chaudhary, who is serving life imprisonment.
On the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, the prison sentences of 19 people, including Resham Chaudhary, have been pardoned.
The Council of Ministers held a meeting on Sunday morning and voted to approve Resham's release from prison.
Similarly, the remaining jail terms of 482 individuals, including seven elderly citizens, have been commuted. Their remaining jail sentences have been waived under Article 276 of the Constitution, Article 37 of the Criminal Offenses Act, and Article 12 of the Senior Citizens Act.
Section 37 provides that inmates who have paid 50% of their sentence and have improved their behavior may be pardoned.
