The vote count in Chitwan constituency 2 has begun. An all-party meeting this morning took a decision to this effect.
Earlier, an all-party meeting on Sunday night could not strike an agreement to count votes, thus prompting the meeting today to decide the matter, said assistant election officer Ishwor Acharya.
Representatives of various political parties, including the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML), accused the Chief District Officer of not turning up for the meeting on Sunday night for the vote count. They had accused the CDO of breaching the election code of conduct with the 'involvement' of the CDO. They had been demanding clarification for the act in the meeting.
The constituency had a total of 124,695 eligible voters (63,291 women, 61,403 men, and one third of each gender).
In the House of Representatives by-election, high competition is expected among NC's Jit Narayan Shrestha from the alliance, UML's Ram Prasad Neupane, and Rastriya Swatantra Party's Rabi Lamichhane.
Similarly, the counting of votes for the by-election in Bara area number 2 has also started.
The counting of votes has started in Karaiyamai rural municipality 1 and Suvarnapur rural municipality 1 wards.
People's Socialist Party President Upendra Yadav, UML's Purushottam Paudel, Janamat Party's Shivachandra Kushwaha, and Rastriya Swatantra Party's Ramesh Kharel are the popular candidates for Bara-2.
