The major political parties are meeting again for further discussion on the nomination for the presidential election this evening after an earlier meeting failed to reach a conclusion.
Leaders are hopeful of reaching a conclusion through this meeting. Prior to the meeting leaders expressed their opinions throughout the day on varied occasions.
Nepali Congress (NC) general secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa informed that NC has put forward a strong claim for the Presidency.
Spokesperson for the Nepali Congress, Prakash Sharan Mahat, said the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is also positive about supporting the president nominated by the Congress to protect the constitution.
Deputy General Secretary of the CPN-Maoist Centre Janardan Sharma has urged for cooperation toward national consensus for the presidential election rather than confrontation among the political parties.
He said,“We have put forward a request to reach a national consensus with political parties and the UML. Now is not a time for chaos, but a time for cooperation.”
Prime Minister and CPN-Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN -Unified Socialist Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal and Janata Samajbadi Party Chair Upendra Yadav are among those attending the meeting.
Whereas, UML Chair KP Oli has announced that his party “will run for the presidency.” UML has finalised the candidate for the election, he added.
Also, UML leader Pradeep Gyawali has hinted towards possible cooperation with Congress in order to achieve political stability.
Both Congress and the UML are claiming the presidency.
However, Deputy Secretary General Gyawali said that it is possible to cooperate with the Congress right from the presidential election.
