Israel's Security Cabinet on Monday night approved "the next phase" of the military operation in Lebanon as Israeli ground forces reportedly launched artillery and tank fire into southern Lebanon.
"The ministers of the Security Cabinet approved the next phase of the Israel Defense Forces' operations in Lebanon," read a statement released on behalf of the cabinet, without specifying further details.
U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated earlier Monday evening that Israel had informed the United States of "limited operations focused on Hezbollah infrastructure near the border."
Lebanese media reports and video footage on social media showed tank fire, artillery, and flare bombs being launched into southern Lebanon.
Meanwhile, three rockets were fired from Lebanon toward Shtula, a moshav in northern Israel. The rockets landed in open fields, according to a statement released by the Israeli military.
