Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has secured a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives meeting held on Wednesday.
The vote of confidence proposed by Prime Minister Dahal was passed by the majority, as 157 votes were cast in favor. 110 votes were cast against the proposal. Whereas 1 vote was abstained. 268 members were present in the HoR today.
This is the third time that PM Prachanda secured a confidence vote from the parliament since he got it on January 10 and then on March 20 last year.
HoR members from CPN-UML, CPN-Maoist Centre, Rashtriya Swatantra Party, and CPN-Unified Socialist Party, among others, have given a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Dahal.
Nepali Congress, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) voted against Prachanda's proposal. The Nepal Workers Peasants Party abstained in its single vote.
There is a constitutional provision that the Prime Minister should take a vote of confidence within 30 days after political parties that partnered with the government withdrew their support.
CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Prachanda was appointed the Prime Minister of Nepal on 25 December 2022.
